I have been busy all day setting up a layout at a train show. So here is one from the oldies file. The Walther's Goo on the bottom of that guys shoes did not hold up to the Texas wind.
Still one of my favorites, Russell. I especially like the freight house right next to the siding. I presume it is scratchbuilt. Is it plastic or wood? How long ago was it built for the modules? Thanks.
SNFF 2006 1 8 Happy New Year, everybody. My Santa Fe Peavine Line layout web page has (finally) been updated with newer photos of the ballasted Kato Unitrack, along with updated text and a few additional diagrams as well: http://home.comcast.net/~j.sing/Peavine_Layout_Overview.html While I was doing that, I thought it might be a bit interesting to compare what progress was made from Jan 2005 to Jan 2006 on the layout. The things that have changed are incremental in nature. The ballasting of the Unitrack and addition of the scenery cap between the modules were the major visible items. Weathering of the entire locomotive and rolling stock fleet, which can't be seen in these overview photos, is however, *really* making a difference. More shots on that in future weeks. (smile) 1. View of layout looking into office from living room: Jan 2005: Jan 2006: 2. Closer view of Glendale Junction: Jan 2005: Jan 2006: 3. Overview of Layout including Prieta Canyon module in back: Jan 2005: Jan 2006: continued in part 2.....
4. View of Glendale Produce Jan 2005: Jan 2006: 5. View of Santa Fe Ice House #1 on right side of layout Jan 2005: Jan 2006: A year does make a difference. (smile) As we start 2006: a) I am in the process of weathering the entire fleet, all locomotives and rolling stock. Should take me well into 2006. b) Combined with that, I'm the local Coast Division, NMRA Pacific Coast Region Model Contest Chairperson. Check out the results of that model RR volunteer-ism, there's some great models that were photographed and placed on this draft web page: http://home.comcast.net/~atsf_arizona_2/contest_Dec_2005.html Through that activity, getting to meet some really great model railroaders here in the Bay area. c) Several conventions coming up through out 2006, should be some good photo opportunities, including: - O Scale West convention here in Bay Area in February, - Bay Area Prototype Modelers in April - SP Historical Society Convention in July in Oakland, CA - N scale Collectors and N Scale Convention in Denver in August I've gotten the green light from my better half to attend the Denver convention, as long as I can make the finances work. Happy 2006 and best wishes to everyone.
John: There is really quite a difference in the Santa Fe Peavine Line between January 2005 and January 2006. You did a great job ballasting the Unitrack. I know first hand how difficult a job that was after the scenery was already in place. Stay cool and run steam.....
John - Great idea comparing: Jan 2005: Jan 2006: I've bookmarked this thread and will try to pull it up Jan 07.
That one is built out of Evergreen styrene strip and sheet. I built it about 10 years ago using photos as a guide.
Russell Great shot! I think I work with that LPP. John Sing Great looking layout! It was amazing what you did in the space and hot it changed! Steve Great to see your progress! Mike Cool commuter shots! John W Awesome!
Still have some final touch-up work to do at the base of the buildings, but otherwise they are done. The city library was a Christmas project: The bank was a Christmas gift from my wife, by Lunde Studios. I added window details and lights to it, as well as an interior just behind the main door (which doesn't show in this pic):
A shot of a tank truck that I finished building, as it leaves my layout to take its place on the club layout! *Note: No Unimogs were harmed in the construction of this truck.
Well done evryone. Thanks for sharing and keep them coming. I've added a printed backdrop to one portion of the layout:
