Awesome pics guys! Pete, I love when a story is put to a picture!

Although only used for railfan runs, here the HVRR 9-11 memorial unit gets a chance to stretch it's legs before the railfan season starts. The unit is also used as a training unit from time to time.

    Nice shots everyone!

Not to take anything away from everyone's great work by singling one out, but I think that John Sing's first shot of his Santa Fe 'Billboard' SD24s is outstanding. Great angle and the lighting is near perfect. Looks real!

And to Pete Nolan - funny no one around here ever heard of that wreak in '57. I also didn't realize that the rail ever went over the river in these parts. Beside it yes, but over? [IMG] [IMG]

Here's my shots this week. All are different angles of that same train in the same location.

I havn't done much this week so here is a shot I made a couple weeks ago. I am trying to set old hyway 90 back in the 1940's best as I can remember it.

This pic is in the same area as last week's. I gathered up some sandstone, crushed it up and piled it at the bottom of the rockwall. I don't know if I like it or not. It didn't particularly "WOW" me when I did it, so I will see if I tire of it lying there after a few weeks.

    Great shot!

Went out railfaning on the not yet finished Passenger Station Diorama and caught this little local freight powered by IHC Lehigh & New England 2-6-0 Camelback #48.

Bruce in MA: I like your modeling, especially the weathering, but, I think it is the composition of your shots that I like the most. They are all plausible, realistic, believeable, etc. Not all at an ideal angle, but taken as though some poor railfan had run as hard as they could to get there and then just barely got the shot that they did. Really some nice work, there! [IMG]

    doofus:

The sand stone is not the same color as the rockwall, so it doesn't look as though it came from the rockwall above it.

It took me a while to think of that. I am not sure it is correct, but just an idea. [IMG]

I thought about that. I think I will go ahead and see if I can paint or stain some of the sandstone and re-lay it to see if I like it better.

    Doofus:

Use the same wash on the sandstone as you used on the rock ledge.

The sandstone will need several washes of color to approximate the rock ledge.

Smaller pieces might help as well.

    Bruce-in-MA,

And the PRR never made it close to New England! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

We all have our fantasies. Mine is that the PRR made it all the way north into Maine.

Spent sometime on a quick little project. Had a great idea about the forest service moving equipment by rail. So to that end I stripped and painted a flat car. took a lot less time than I had imagined it would.
Of course, an emty flat is useless. So I dug into my box of "yet to be done" and came up witha couple of Micro Machines in need of some attention. Besides paint, the loader had it wheels changed for some massive wheels (off a Greyhound bus). I'm not reall happy with it but it will stand in till I can get a GHQ or something.
I added tracks to the bulldozer and I'm reasonably happy with it.
The color green I used is wrong. Finding a good match for the ugly forest service green is going to be tough. This last shot is infront of the computer so the lighting really sux.
If Micro Trains is going to continue their Smokey Bear series I wish they would make useable cars more like this rather than multiple box cars with pretty artwork.

Oh ya, I also added the white stripe to my 2-8-0
    [IMG]
    .... and added some trucking...
.... and dressed up a wood chip car a little bit ...
    before...
    after...

Just some puttering but I got a few things done this week. Sometimes it's the little pojects that add up.

    Yeah, that too... :D [IMG]

Your story made me laugh because a few hours earlier I was driving up a road that parallels the rail that follows the Merrimac River north of Lowell (up to NH). All I’ve ever seen on it are slow moving coal trains heading to & from PSNH.

Flash - thanks for the wonderful compliment on my photography. I’m always trying to make my pictures “real”. [IMG]

I have been working on a small layout with a couple of friends these past few weeks. The competition rules said it not only had to work, but everything also had to fit in a shoebox.

Here's what we came up with
