Well it's almost 6:00pm here on the east coast,so I guess Russ is busy. So I'll start this week. Over the last 2 weeks,I was able to make alittle progress on the layout. The 1st picture is a TEAM effort. I did the weathering,JD did the detailing & Craig supplieed the "Jersey Barriers".

    Here's the areas I did.

    Nice work Secret Weapon!

I took this shot of an abandoned spur in the background with an active siding in the foreground:

Another shot looking across a pond:

Both pics have digital backdrops added (because my modeling usually needs as much help as it can get.:embarassed:)

Here is a shot of a Conrail local finishing up its day. The local works a former doubletrack mainline now turned secondary. The tracks see little maintenance and the ROW is slowly being reclaimed by nature. The train still runs albiet at restricted speed not exceeding 10 MPH. Traffic is light and the Conductor is taking advantage of it by not going out to flag the crossing. Not much to worry about on their part as it is late in the day, the Trainmasters and Road Foremen have all gone home for the day and if they are still at work will never travel out to this neck of the woods just to check up on a crew.

This is the same local but on a different day. The train is headed down the main today to serve the last customer. There aren't too many consignees left in this area of New Jersey anymore which is one of the reasons the mainline was relegated to secondary status. The train is just coming to a stop for the crossing and the Conductor will be stepping out shortly to flag the crossing. The tower is long closed down and the gates are no longer functioning. The home signals are not even in service anymore.

These shots are on my new N-scale layout.

    Enjoy.

Yeah, I have been traveling all day. Am in Wisconsin visiting family. Finally found a computer to log on with. Great photos so far. Lot of cool urban scenes with a few rural shots thrown in. Awesome choppy water there Bruce.

A picture from last week on the San Antonio Model Railroad Association (SAMRA) H0 scale layout. There are two bridges that cross the canyon here but they have been removed for the scenery construction. A thread on construction is here.

    I love that quarry! Wow.

For the image below, I call it Highland Meet. The J1 holds the siding while an urgent Niagara powers past at speed on the main in the highland above Seneca Falls.

In the next image, a UP Challenger emerges from the eastern portal at Seneca Falls.

Great stuff, all. Here's my contribution - my photo entry in the Greenlight N scale
Intermodal contest, in the "Ready To Run" category (i.e. weathered, basic mods like
lowering the car and installing short shank MT 1035s):

Like any contest, the real value is that it motivates me and others to get together
and share some pretty good N scale intermodal photos, the N scale intermodal
contest and display-only photos below are really worthwhile to see:

    Greenlightintermodal Gallery - RailImages.com

So thx, Greenlight, for getting me in action and doing more than I would have otherwise.

(no connection with Greenlight, just happy to see all the great N scale intermodal).

    Have a great week.

    :)

I now have the Willie Maakit Memorial Bridge 95% complete and securely located in such a way that it can be removed with relative ease. All that is left is to install the rails between the rails, paint the concrete footings and install the tapered feet.

The bridge is a bashing of strips of hardwood, 2 Kato single truss bridges and various Evergreen and Plastruct items. The platforms and steel viaduct towers along with the code 55 bridge flex track is Micro-Engineering.

The trestle ends of the bridge are made from hardwood covered with plastruct. Both ends sit in a hardwood cradle. The connecting tracks have sliding rail connectors for good continuity and smooth operation.

This is the start of the concrete viaduct I am building. The track supporting member is again hardwood but the viaduct is a softer aspen that is easier to use in a scroll saw.

Here is the extension through the mountain and the beginnings of the scenery.
There will be a road with bridge over the tracks in the foreground.

    SSW7796/SP3027; B30-7/Trainmaster

Released from passenger duties for the weekend, an FM Trainmaster accompanies GE B30-7 for late Sunday afternoon TOFC switching duties. The Trainmaster is very clean compared to the old GE.
