I managed to actually finish some cars this week! After last week, I actually finished another Ribbed Side Car this week, this version is what they are labeling a Phase I car, with short ribs, 5-5 Ends, Lumber Door and Panel Roof. I painted it with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red, and lettered with the Intermediate Scheme of the late 50's and numbered the car after the general renumbering of 1963. Lettering was supplied with the undecorated kit. Robbins Rails 50' PS1 Boxcar, with the later 10' PS Door from Details West. This is the third car I have done in this paint scheme, but chose a car number from the group that had DF Loader and Bulkheads accounting for the DFB symbol on the car. Car painted with Scalecoat II Reading Green and lettered with Herald King Decals. Athearn PS 4740 Covered Hopper, which is a standin for the prototype's Evans Clone of the PS 4740. Painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Yellow and lettered with Oddballs Decals. Thanks for looking! Rick J
Rick J: Just out of curiosity, how many cars do you have? I suspect you collect them. Do you have a place to display them? Your work is excellent! Jim: Is that a 12 foot crock in the flotsam waiting for the operator to step off the puller's platform? A great scene and fine work!

Thank you Jim. Most everything in the photo is scratch built as far as the scenery and turntable go. I must confess I build layouts then photograph them, tear them down and build and photograph again. This is layout Number 6 in eight years in my house. Jim
DTI406 (Rick J) Excellent job on the painting there. Question. HOW do you mix your Scalecoat II and to what pressure do you spray? I have used Floquil for over 25 years and of course it is no more. I'm not happy w/ Polly Scale, especially trying to add gloss, etc. I have purchased an 8 pack of Scalecoat II, but haven't had good results. My results have been too grainy. Obviously, I am doing something wrong and trying to work it like Floquil. Floquil spoiled me. Good job on the models. I am very curious as to your technique w/ the Scalecoat II. Especiallyl thinner product used (Scalecoat thinner?), thinner ratio, and air pressure setting. Thanks.
