Thanks. The Pacific is kind of a "dog's breakfast" of parts from many manufacturers. The mechanism is from Trix with a Kato motor, cylinders and valve gear. The pilot, boiler shell and cab parts are also Kato. A lot of the details on the boiler have been altered. The tender is Model Power. The Model Power tender trucks have been modified with wheels and electrical pickup salvaged from Kato passenger trucks.
Hey, Mopman-----I remember your article. I was in that issue of MR too. I was the guy who wrote about kitbashing the 4-4-0 in HO. odd-d
Here's some rocks I carved from plaster. I didn't really go off of any pictures or anything, just carved till I got to a point I liked. They were colored with an acrylic paint wash and now just need a little foliage to tie it all together.
Good start. I did this too. Just go with two main directions. And the broken parts will give great slide. Wolfgang
I had forgotten how long ago it was. I'll have to go back through my stacks of MRs and refresh my memory.
Rusty Covered Hopper Limited railfanning on this trip. Here is a covered hopper I liked. Good rust job.
After way too long with out a post I'm back with a new video. Last weekend the Great Train Expo came to Nashville and I took some footage and made a short video of the event. Check out the video on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-lmLmdMmU4 You can also check out a few additional pictures on my blog: http://www.realityreduced.com/Reality_Reduced/Blog/Entries/2010/4/18_Nashville_Great_Train_Expo.html Don't forget to subscribe to the Youtube Channel and the RSS feed on the blog!
A mishmosh from a busy weekend. First, a reject from the Photo Challenge (my original storyline was a derailed passenger car): Second, my stripped down HO GP-20. I like the way it reflects off the car roof in the evening sunlight: And finally, a good shot from my training at the BGRM: Here's the video I put together, if you're interested.
I like to look back a few yrs when it comes to railroading, but since my layout is set in the early 90's, this is an everyday scene ....
I uncovered my benchwork and started cutting the subroadbed for the hidden return loop. There will be a helix under the return loop to staging eventually. I just dread building the helix. I have considered contacting Ashlin Designs and having them make a custom size to fit unit for me. Anybody out there have a CNC router to make building the repetitive parts easier? Now I have to find a place for all the stuff that was setting on the benchwork instead of the floor under it. You can see the Unitrak test loop on the left that has kept me running trains in the mean time and probably will for a while as the leg on the right is fairly complex and is going to take some time.
