More work progressing (slowly) on the Santa Fe RSD-7 and RSD-15s, based on the Atlas B40-8 mechanism with
Atlas C628 trucks.

This is the progress on the Santa Fe RSD-7 #601 shell:







The Model Power high-nose RSD-15 shell isn't 100% accurate for a Santa Fe RSD-7, but it's pretty close, and close enough for me.
The above is brush-painted Polly Scale Engine Black, with Microscale 60-247 decals.
After all the decals / number boards are finished, a overcoat of Model Master flat lacquer will seal the decals / cover blemishes.

Certainly I'm not a professional model painter, but hopefully this will serve as inspiration / example
of what a everyday model railroader can do with a bit of basic tools, time, patience, and enjoyment.

I believe Santa Fe used both silver or white, depending on the particular Santa Fe loco in question, it also depended on what date in time for the loco, it depended on whether the locos had been repainted or not, as well as where that repainting might have been done. Also, black and white rail fan photos don't always tell us, 50 years later, what the actual color might have been. Thus, I don't know for a fact that the actual RSD-7's were white or silver stripes, or what dates might be right for one or the other. The few color photos that I have seen in the Morning Sun books, shows the RSD-7's could well have been either white stripes or silver, depending on the date, time, and even the loco.

So, not knowing what is the 100% rivet-counter accurate zebra stripe color, here's why I chose the silver. I have other Santa Fe silver Zebra Stripe locos (all by Atlas, those are their SD24, GP7, H16-44, and RSD4/5's) and they all happen to be silver stripes. My Randgust-built H12-44 switcher and fantasy Santa Fe H31-44 FM Trainmaster also has silver stripes (Randy asked when he built/painted them, and I chose silver). I think the silver looks pretty good. So, for consistency sake, I chose to use the silver Microscale 60-247 decal set on these kit bash RSD-7s (as opposed to the 60-248 white stripe set). (That's a hugely long-winded way to say "I like silver". Duh on me!)
