Here is the module that I was set up next to last weekend at the train show in Oklahoma City. And my module.
Great looking towns, Russell. I'm celebrating the repair of my NCE Power Cab Even my dad's Walthers F7 visited Mike
Motive power arrives in Hill City Attached image is a still capture from this video: http://dmirhillcitysub.blogspot.com/2010/12/motive-power-arrives-in-hill-city.html I'll post some better photos tomorrow...
Russ, I like your town. Your roads are nicely done, styrene? Mike, we never tire of the photos you put together. Tom, the natural light sure brings even more life to your scene. Thanks for the inspiration folks.
Thanks. The roads are wallboard joint compound painted concrete color and weathered with smudged pencil lead. I like it because It can put a crown a little in the center and taper it up to the railroad crossings. I did use styrene on the sidewalks and curbs, actually entire city blocks are the same piece. That turned out to be a mistake. The large piece of styrene expands and contracts at a different rate than the blue foam that is under it causing it to de-laminate. I have to keep gluing it down. In the photo above you can see one place where it came apart right below the telegraph pole on the lower left. Some day I think I will rip up all the large pieces of styrene and replace them with just thin strips for the sidewalk/curbs and fill in behind it with Woodland Scenic ground foam or something like that.
Just finished my work with my Blackstone K-27. Pit track at Salina Leaving the turntable at Salina Wolfgang
Mike, congrats on getting your DCC back online. Great looking loco, Wolfgang. A couple of TOFC's in the yard. DJ.
great steamer! Thanks Smallbore. The track in that part of the layout is very lightly weathered with these colours Jo Sonja's acrylics - Charcoal, Soft White and Red Earth. I like to paint it all over then clean the railhead just before the paint sets. If I want rustier rails I use a small rigger brush and paint the sides with this stuff... Jo Sonja's Charcoal, Red Earth and Willow. Often I make the ties a little blacker between the rails too, as I did on the bridge... The colour might be a bit dodgy here because the floodlight was quite close. I'm no expert on how track should look. This is a what-I-did. :tb-biggrin: Mike
Here are some gifts I received both a friend and a gift I bought for myself. Three freight cars and a "Highway Traffic Stop" scene. Atlas Mogul Steamer.
2010 International Winter Layout Party I have a corner of my layout that needs a building. I found this one at the Oklahoma City Train Show. It has balsa wood walls and and a tree bark roof. If you are on a budget that is what you do. My intention is to make this a fixer-upper. Here is the proposed site: Not so much so far, but the 2010 International Winter Layout Party starts this Friday. You can read more at the link. I want to use this building as the subject of my layout improvement. Probably a good idea as the building needs improving, for sure! The Layout Party isn't a contest; it's just a place to post pictures as you make some layout improvements. As I say, read more at the link. See you Friday!
Yep. Snagged it on eBay for just over half of what I've seen others go for. I've read these steamers need a lot of work to break them in, and that's definitely true. But once it's tuned properly this little thing will be a prized member of the Thunder Ridge roster.
I love your town. I use mat board for my sidewalks and I sometimes use the same piece under the building to bring it level with the sidewalks. It's great stuff and it never moves. I also use wallboard joint compound for my streets
