Good morning from cloudy and cold Northeast Ohio! I managed to complete a couple of projects and am working on others! First up, another PRR Cabin Car, brass cabin car by Precision Scale Models. Painted with Scalecoat PRR Freight Car Red and Black Paints, then lettered with K4 Decals. This is a Class N5a Cabin Car, it and 3 others were made from Class N5 by installing a Duryea Cushioned underframe to see how it worked on a Cabin Car. Second is a Red Caboose, R70-15 Mechanical Refridgerator Car, added Yarmouth Sill Steps in place of the fragile plastic ones of the kit. Painted with Scalecoat II ATSF Red and White paints, then lettered with Oddballs Decals. Car was used to haul produce from Texas and Missouri to other locations in the US. Note the BKTY reporting marks, the Katy was not in good financial condition and the SP financed a number of cars for the Katy and all those cars were notated with BTKY reporting marks. They also followed the car specs for the SP. A pair of Bowser Pennsy RS-3's with a coal drag running on the Strongsville Club Layout. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski
@r_i_straw, very cool work. @SP-Wolf, interesting fuel truck and trailer. @dti406, that cabin car deserves some kind of an award. (Are the round objects on the roof actually water tank cylinders?) BKTY = Bought for KTY?
Those round objects are the receiving coils for the trainphone system, since the caboose was not long enough for the full length antennas. The "B" stands for Banker's Leasing Company the financing arm of the Southern Pacific Railway. Rick Jesionowski
I knew they were KATY cars.... But I didn't know where the B came from. Thanks for sharing great information!!
After being sick with COVID for the last week I finally felt well enough to run some trains. Here is a 21-car coal drag coming through Leiperville Union Station with Penn Central F7A and F7B on the point. 1 of 4 Penn Central. F7A. Walthers Mainline Penn Central. F7B. 4 of 4 Chessie System (Baltimore & Ohio). AAR 70 Ton 3-Bay Open Hopper with Arched Ends. Atlas Trainman 3-pack Penn Central. Wide Vision Caboose. Athearn Blue Box I just acquired a GoPro and decided to give it a try in place of my cellphone for the video of the run by. I think the GoPro video is better than what I was getting with the cellphone.
So that's just "Crazy"! Very cool reefer train sir. Good thing that one car didn't take the plunge into the river below.
So in my effort to try and get the Mast Arm traffic light's standing straight, for the time being I have come up with this using .040 styrene strips I cut. How it will look in the end, or IF I can actually make a sidewalk or base out of .040 styrene is still up n the air. But instead of filling in the pot holes, this is working out, so far. I continue to try different options. If I go this route trying to figure out how to make the little bases round, and of course paint them at some point, attach to the base. Ideas continue to flow.
