I tried using the Sony camcorder to take some still photos, to see what the depth of field was like. Also shot another couple of videos while I was there [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1u5KvbiIzY&feature=channel_page"]YouTube - CSX MP15AC[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teSLJgNJDYs&feature=channel"]YouTube - Norfolk Southern GP38 2[/ame] Jon
There goes Jon blowing the curve away. Always setting the bar high for us. I am working on a section of my layout and have yet to settle on the soil color. What do you guys think. I plan to add some trees and oversize shrubs like Cajon, CA. Keep in mind the background is still mostly honey colored grass and will also get the final re-treatment. This first shot is using a light colored soil. This second shot is using real soil. Heres a shot straight in front of the scene.
Progress has been slow on the HO layout but here are a few more shot. Detailing the neighborhood is taking forever but we are getting closer to pouring some water.
Thanks, The guy I am helping with this is addicted to the Woodland Scenics mini scenes. The population of this town is definitely more than the housing can support.
John, your bridge sure looks great! I think the second photo of soil looks a bit better. The first was a tad bit too white to me. And those locos! They look great! Nice and dirty I was adding details to this Southern Pacific B23-7 all last week, and finished up the weathering tonight. Caught it heading north with an SD45T-2 pulling a manifest train. -Mike
I'm still busy with my narrwo gauge station Silver Creek. For a break I've started with a Micro Engineering flat car kit. Wolfgang
Mike: Beautifully detailed model! I would like to know what are the two boxes on the cab roof? The front one is the air conditioner. The second has an antenna on it? Why such a big box to hold the antenna? I am putting these same details on my H0 scale B40-8; I didn't know what they were, for sure. Thanks.

With a few friends we were at the FREMO meeting in Bathmen, Netherlands. More pictures at my blog . Wolfgang
Very nice Mike. It looks like you used a bit of white in your weathering. It came out great and seems to bring out more detail than the black, brown, and sand colors I use. Did you use chalks?
Flash, you are correct, but I don't know why they used such a large box for the antenna. The photos I've seen have a sinclair antenna (which I used) or a whip antenna on it, both mounted on top of that box. ATSF also has those large boxes on their B23/30/40/C30-7's. Maybe it's a GE thing? Here is a top shot of a B40-8:http://espee.railfan.net/picindex/b39-8_detail/Sp8020_2.html John, yes, I used chalks. To get the unit a bit faded, I used a light grey, which I applied very lightly to the whole unit. Then I went back over it in a few places using more of the light grey to get those streaks. I also used black and a light brown. Here is the 2 photos I was working from, but I decided to weather it a bit heavier, since my modeling time is later than when these pictures were taken. http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/b23-7_photos/5100rjh_sp-b23-7-rob_sarberenyi.jpg http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/b23-7_photos/5105rjh_sp-b23-7-rob_sarberenyi.jpg Thanks Mike
Thanks for the explanation Mike. I will try some gray and light gray. Maybe a weathering section is in order. Probably already suggested but it sure would be a great resource.
Hey Flash, I believe that box is for the Locotrol remote system. If I'm wrong I hope someone will step up.:tb-embarrassed: Have a good one,
Thanks, Wolfman. I can't ever remember which of those Espee units had which. I do remember that the snoot nosed SD40T-2s had that concept that didn't work very well. Chuck Short did pretty well at the N scale convention; I was glad to see that. Here is my last photo for the weekend. Airbrush weathered first run Kato SD40 in Conrail colors. Cleaner unit in trail.
