Thanks Russ for opening up the thread with a nice photo!

I finally finished some cars this week:

IMWX 40' 1937 AAR Boxcar Kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and lettered with Mark Vaughn decals. This was one of 1,000 boxcars the Wabash purchased from the New Haven in the 1950's. The gap between the numbers is prototypical.

Branchline 50' Berwick Boxcar Kit. Painted with Floquil Big Sky Blue and lettered with Herald King Decals. This was one of the many IPD Boxcars made in the late 70's for numerous shortline railroads, when the IPD rules changed these cars changed hands frequently. Also added the Detail Assoc. Hennessy Door Opener as the prototype had those installed.

Walthers 52'6" Thrall Gon, painted with Scalecoat II Reading Green and lettered with Oddballs Decals. Removed the cast on grabs and sill steps and replaced with wire grabs and sill steps. Also added air lines between the air reservoir, ABD Valve and Brake Cylinder.

Thanks for looking!

This makes me curious. Do you know the story behind that spacing? Was it a carryover stencil from a previous car body style, which had a post there?

Russ, the bloody nose geep is not that scruffy - the paint colour still shows! The SP locos I saw back in '85 were usually much worse than that :D

I don't know, the same question was asked when I did the Moloco GATC RBL, which also had the space in between the numbers, which I had never noticed until then. When looking through my freight car color guide all the cars had that space between the numbers. I may have to ask why on the Wabash Historical Yahoo Group to find out why.

A couple of videos from the layout, using my new key fob mini camera which I've mounted on the chassis of a 40ft boxcar.
An Atlas RS-11 provided the motive power for this one:

An SD26 crawls by on the left.

and an Atlas GP7 pushed the camera in this one, which starts on the unscenicked hinged extension.

The most interesting thing - perhaps the only interesting thing :funny: - is the thunder in the background, and the hailstones heard falling on the fibreglass roof. Note the prototypical bumper at the end of the line, too. Someday the main line will continue for another 12 ft or so. I'd like to re-align the track at the bridge approaches too, which is no big deal to me until I see the engineer's view.

Mike, your scenery in the videos is outstanding. However, I found the audio lagging the video definitely unnerving. Though I admit it was not noticed until after the camera stopped at the scraggy trees in the second video. Otherwise you had me completely fooled. Now, the camera's momentum approaching the pond and trees did have me a bit concerned.

Thanks Hank.
Vimeo is odd. When I uploaded last night, there was no sound at all1 I almost deleted it there and then, but today there's sound. Weird.
The sound doesn't really lag at all - it's Vimeo at fault. A second playing -should you have nothing better to do - would probably be fine.

Wow, when I was a kid, I sure would have like to have Tonka Toys for my sand box that looked like that.;)

Nice.

Aren't we all supposedly still kids, with our trains, at least in our hearts? :)

Thanks...I really like the HO scale stuff that's available today. Make our layouts look a LOT better than some of us (me) can model...
