ATSF Combine 2626 with an Alco RS at the point pauses in Sarah's Valley one fall evening in 1963. John
I did not get a lot done this week, with other matters that needed attention, so a couple of old shots I took at the club. Pennsy GP9's with a coal drag passing Central GP40's in a siding with a general freight. GP38 and SD38 as normal power on the Delta Turn with a train of Auto Parts to be delivered to the N&W for the Ford Fast Trains to Kansas City and Milpitas. See you all later! Rick Jesionowski
An ATSF switcher takes a cut of cars from the Santa Fe's "G.I. (Galesburg Industrial) yard" (foreground) south to exchange with the CB&Q's waiting cut of cars for the Santa Fe (far distance) during this Spring's Decatur railroad show on the Galesburg City Job layout. The train approaches the Monmouth Avenue grade crossing (middle distant).
I think there was an article on the DT&I in Modelrailroader in 1972is that I was very intrigued with. I really like the orange scheme and the bold lettering. It wasn't until many years later that I realized they had no dynamic brakes!
Well, on a FB page that I belong to, they issued a CMW Ford challenge. Take a stock CMW Ford and modify it in some way. Well, I did mine on a day off. I may add some mud to it, but here it is. I filled the holes for the stock mirrors, and used A-Line 50152 mirrors, painted the bed with CramCoat BARN WOOD, painted the wheel hubs, interior and the grill. The hay bales are from JTT scenery.
Last weekend (November 11, 12) I was attending the Intermountain Train Show at the Sandy South Town Expo Center, in Sandy, Utah, and I picked up this Mantua Santa Fe Rogers 4-6-0 for just $40.00. The thing runs super smooth! Now I have to remember my formula for Russian Iron Blue to match the Utah & Pleasant Valley #3, James E. Talmag. Still don't know what I'm going to do with the 4-8-0 that's in a sad D&RGW Bumble-Bee scheme...but my 1880s steam fleet is growing.
Nice fleet. Those old Mantua Ten Wheelers and Mastodons (4-8-0's) based on Sierra Ry. #3 are among my favorite steam engines. BTW, That is a nice Russia iron color on the Talmadge. Could we get you to share your recipe when you find it?
Very nice mod, Paul. You've corrected the glaring visual stuff about these models. I don't understand why manufacturers never got the fact that most of these old trucks did not have chrome grills and most rims were either black or white. (Rims on old farm trucks they were/are usually rust, mud, or crud color. The A-Line mirrors are also a nice touch. (Admittedly, I haven't gotten around to correcting the grills and rims on my own CMW trucks, but yeah, eventually.)
Actually the first six GP38's had dynamic brakes, as the DT&I received some quickly repainted units that were originally ordered by the Maine Central and sent to the DT&I after they lost some GP9's that were destroyed in a derailment. These were the only units that had dynamic brakes. Rick Jesionowski
I have had nothing but trouble decalling my Pacific Electric SW1 into Tiger Stripes. The letters and numbers, no issues, though the stripes, well, it must have been old decals. They tore and folded over onto themselves. As for the loco, I named her Tigger, since there was only one SW1 lettered for the Pacific Electric and I am sure that this is the only one in N Scale.
