I'm not sure about ownership. There was a sign posted on the front that said it is a Designated Landmark. And some grant money was being used to rehab and preserve the structure.
Cool SD9 - and even better since it's going to proudly show off its GN goat! The GN hotel is a nice building - it reminds me of a one up at Upper Canada Village - the hotel/tavern/restaurant. Same basic style.
I thought about making the hike when 765 was coming back from Enola in 2012 but thought better of it. I would've never been able to catch up with it again if I had. Also there's that whole trespassing thing that could've caused issues nowadays. Also there were coal and auto trains ahead of and behind 765 on the other lines, so chances are there wasn't a clear shot to be had at that tower anyway. I got video and stills at Horseshoe, Cresson, Derry, Greengate, and Manor that day instead. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Good choice you made. Yes, things have changed on the mountain. Back in July 1980 friends and I camped for several nights on the rise overlooking Bennington Curve, just downgrade from Gallitzin on the east slope. The site offered a safe and grand view. Years later, the CR Police started patrolling the area and I suspect that NS Police continue it today.
Some years ago my wife and I stayed at the Skykomish Hotel. The rooms were austere but clean. The washroom and showers down the hall. We spent most of the night watching trains go by. There was a train about every fourty five minutes all night. There was a great restaurant The Iron Goat Grill and Steakhouse" on the ground floor. Great food too! It's now closed but it was a great place back then
OK. That makes sense. I was having a hard time figuring out where you took the shot from if it was Amos.
