The last time I saw this locomotive, it was a rusting hulk in a scrap yard down along the Roanoke River. In 2009 and yesterday at the Virginia Museum of Transportation. Sent from my DROID4 using Tapatalk 2
Wow. Rust bucket! And if I understand what you've written, it still exists? I wonder why the scrapper didn't cut it up? What rail operation was the owner?
I think that was the same salvage yard that still had three or four N&W steam locomotives buried in the trees. I know the museum in Roanoke got one of them. Sent from my LG-P930 using Tapatalk 2
When was the last time you have seen one of these? A three dome tanker, and no, the speeder is not towing it. Spotted at Niles Canyon June 12.
It ran on the Chesapeake & Western. The second photo shows it cosmetically restored only but the plans are to get it running again. It was one of the five "lost locomotives of Roanoke", two diesels and three 4-8-0 steamers. Sent from my DROID4 using Tapatalk 2
Nice Baldwin switcher! Those beasts are pretty rare in any condition. And I would like to see the speeder at least *try* to pull the tanker...
What is the name of that operation, (New Jersey?), which had Baldwin switchers as their primary motive power? "SMS" something? Do they still use those engines?
