Being an adult means saying things will calm down after next week every week until you die. Sigh...

I saw some trains this week. No pictures. The Lava fire took out the Shasta route to Oregon which has trains being rerouted and now the Beckworth Complex fire (beckworth pass being the WP route through the sierras) could take that route off the table which will mean lots of trains on Donner.

Back to the old Grand Trunk Western again this week with something that was probably a familiar sight to a lot of folks here but a bit unusual in my part of the country. This run-through BN power on a coal train from out west was shot just west of Emmett, MI sometime in the 90s. The train is on its way home after having unloaded at the Detroit Edison plant at St. Clair, MI, just south of Port Huron.

A photo from my Dad, way back in early 1967!

The Port of Montreal, way down where the trains are (lots of CN action here), and Expo 67 in the background:

There's quite the sense of scale here, looking at the boxcars, and comparing then to the sheer size of the big, white grain elevator, and some of the other dockside facilities. The elevator is connected to neighboring structures with overhead conveyors.

Today, there are a lot of very long trains going in and out of the Port, sometimes to the chagrin of motorists trying to cross the Victoria Bridge around rush hour...

On the bridge just right of center, one can just make out the rails of the Expo Express train on the left (downstream) side of the bridge deck. At the other end are a pair of covered platforms constituting the first station out from the Montreal terminus (off the frame at right).

Photo by my Dad, Roger, from the top of the Stock Exchange Tower (built 1964), just before it was dethroned by the Toronto-Dominion Center, in Toronto, that same year as the tallest building in Canada.

At the museum in Rockdale, Texas. At one time Rockdale had two railroads, the International Great Northern (MP) and the San Antonio & Aransas Pass (SP). Now it is just the UP that can be seen on the left.

Tuesday, I went with my ex to an eye appointment. Afterwards, we did a little train watching on the east side of Stockton. BNSF has a intermodal facility nearby and we caught a SB train waiting on a siding for not one but two San Joaquins to pass before heading south again:
