Getting ready for International Railfair here in Roseville, so not time for a picture, but what has everyone else seen?
The UP has been extending sidings on Tehachapi, with the object of eventually double-tracking the whole line. Here is work in progress above Tunnel 10, the tunnel just east/south of the Loop. They are building a cut for the second track but will leave Tunnel 10 in place. You can see the grading in progress for the extended siding here, too. They will connect the siding at Walong (the one on the Loop) with the next siding at Marcel. The day was a little hazy, but you can darn near see to Fresno on the horizon!
Neat shot jwb3 -- railroad construction remains fascinating, whether by seeing photographs like yours or from finding images of the mighty engineering projects undertaken 100 Years ago by the DL&W, CC&O, B&O, WM and others . UP's track almost looks like it's laid on cork roadbed. <g>
It would be a fascinating video to see the construction work, not just here but for this entire project across the pass, in time lapse.
Here is a shot from a few years ago. *** I just realized this photo was sent to me by a friend, it is not my own. Pretty sure it was taken by Butch Eyler*** Dec. 227, 2011 056 by Adam Henry, on Flickr
Cool. Love seeing these places which I have train orders from, in my collection. Really breathes life into those old papers.
Iowa Interstate's heritage duo bringing the daily "turn" train up to the Radio-Controlled switch at Yocum as they await for their shoving move into the Dennis Miller South Amana Yard. Veterans Day 2015.
Speaking of heritage, I have not seen one of these in quite a while. This morning on an empty coal drag.
