Get to work! From my Dad's files, ome assorted CPR work and MOW cars, Ste-Therese, August 1979: I like the style of the building in the background. It's the old Willis piano factory. A retirement home not occupies its place, and a street goes where the tracks are now. A lot has changed.
Deep into the east at BN's East Thomas (Birmingham), AL Yard on 08/31/1990, SW-1200 No. 33. Ex-GN I think, but I'm not sure.
Thanks Boxcab. She's then right at home in Birmingham. The East Thomas yard had a reputation for not being a place that tolerated fans. I recall that we jumped out of the car, made our shots and split all in about a minute. At the time, Norfolk Southern's Norris Yard yard across town in Irondale was the polar opposite -- anyone could drive through the gate , into the yard and over to the steam shop to see whatever was there. As long as a fan didn't act like a fool, NS seemed to tolerate it. Alas, that's all changed today.
Adding on to ri straws GVSR here is the gvsr at 9 in the morning leading a local in late November of 2015.
