I'm currently enjoying life as the dad of a 2year old and a week and a half year old, so no picture from me yet. I have one, just need to prepare it, but let's get the thread started.

Well, here is a soggy cold scene from this past Wednesday. This is the old San Antonio & Aransas Pass bridge over the Colorado River in Texas. UP still occasionally runs a train over it to get to a gravel pit south of Altair, Texas.

So I was coming out of school on a cloudy February 20th and I heard a K5 in the distance, hoping I could catch the days Bell County Train heading South I hurried trackside and found nothing. But as I headed home to my surprise the train was actually heading to the loadout! I was able to get several pictures of some "rare" Dash-9's and make friends with the days brakeman, who was quite nice by the way. I was able to get one of my new favorite pictures, as I feel this one just screams Appalachia to me.

Is this a branch line? Track looks fairly well kept.

Yes it is, here is a map to where I live, Middlesboro is served by CSX and NS. CSX arrives from the North and NS makes its way to town via a tunnel under Cumberland Gap and a down a grade to a wye, with one leg heading to Knoxville, one to the yard/CSX, and the other to the Apollo and Bell County branches. The line spits in the Southwest of the town at Stoney Fork junction and curves to parallel Cumberland Avenue/KY74 for a few miles. The picture was taken right at the fork of the road as it heads up the mountain. I hope that expaines some of Middlesboro's interesting trackage. As a sidenote the Cumberland Gap Tunnel actually passes through three states! It's portals are located in KY and TN and for a few feet it passes through EXTREME Southwest Virginia. https://www.google.com/maps/place/M...2!3m1!1s0x885c852a4c65c50b:0x1ec5ad588a39d39a

Nice shots everyone! That Herritage shot is great, but I got cold looking at it. Love the bridge Russell. That NS shot is wonderful. Agree completely thats what I think of when I hear about Appalacian RR's.

I agree! All great photos. I also like Russell's bridge, it has nice proportions - though I detect a hint of another one hiding in the bushes behind. Another track back there?

Here is the chemical plant that caused the water problem in Charleston,WV. The track has not been used since the 80's. It went from Charleston to the Bufflo,Creek and Gauley to Gassaway. Along the Elk River.
