It's a cold day in Franklin Park Il. as a at the time new Metra MP36 hustles commuters home to Elgin on the Former Milwaukee Mainline.

Never been there, but I recognize the vicinity from older photos with that water tower shown.

From my lousy slide scanner comes this memory of twenty five years ago. BN FT45 is sandwiched between GP35 units, ex-GN and ex-Frisco. Site is Interbay (yard) in Seattle:

Thanks, I was wondering if the "T" indicated Tank, not an engine designation.

Now I am wondering- What ever happened to these tanks? Scrapped? Stored somewhere? Re-purposed?

While I'm blasting down the Autobahn (yes, I had to slow down from over 100 MPH), my bride panned this commuter train under wire at 140 KPH (~85MPH):

    FT stands for Fuel Tender.

Some are still in service. Used mostly on Crawford Hill in NE. Most were converted back to tank cars, and used in company service hauling diesel fuel around. Photo is odd though, being none of the GP35s were set up to run with the fuel tenders.

Probably not, as the two natural gas SD40-2s were used on northern tier lines, between Glendive, MT and Staples, MN. So when the units were retired, the fuel tender was probably scrapped, as it wasn't a standard fuel tender nor a car easily converted to company fuel service.
