It's that time again. This is a grab shot I got last Saturday. We were walking back from the Roseville 3rd saturday art walk and I noticed this in the yard. Wish I had swung by earlier in the day. UP has kept SP markings on most of their MOW equipment. In this case a big SP crane (with SP still across it's back) is paired with a MoPac flat. Not a great shot as I took it with my camera at twilight.
There was a big back-up getting across the bridge on Wednesday so I went and snapped a few pics in Linnton. PNWR usually has freight cars and other equipment there. I found PNWR 2317 "Tigard" tied up there, as well as some ballast cars, some centerbeams, and several log spine cars (not pictured). I would have gotten out and snapped some more photos of all the log spine cars but it started raining pretty hard again.
Who needs a Locomotive when you've got a Kenworth or Peterbilt, capable of hauling 7 loaded tie cars.....
Not being greedy with multiple postings, but I forgot I had this photo of this lovely Consolidation. Here's the rest of her story, http://hawkinsrails.net/lagniappe/mrm/mrm.htm.
I have to admit I was a bit surprised that the Crane was still in the Yard Friday afternoon. This morning, I caught the 1 BNSF (as far as I know 1) Train that runs over Donner and I was rather surprised to see an SD70MAC in executive on point. This is a Mixed manifest and I didn't think BNSF let the MACs out of coal service. Though this is obviously an older one. The sun of course could not have possibly been worse, so the pictures aren't much, but it's been the highlight of my weekend so far.
This has me wondering if it is sort of a "weekend" occurance? I've seen instances of units which are normally in what seems to be an assigend service, being grabbed and sent elsewhere for a few days when power is a bit tight. Especially on weekends or Holidays.
