Welp, this week has been a challenge to say the least at Casa Yoho. Lots of lemonade to make from these Lemons. Hopefully everyone else had time to enjoy some railfanning.
Hope that lemonade is ice-cold, Yoho. How about a rebuilt CP GP9, #1608, at Exporail, last June 24th: IMGP12505_CPR_GP9u_1608_24Jn16 by Mike VE2TRV posted Jul 7, 2016 at 8:00 PM Back in the 1980s, CP started an extensive rebuild program that involved GP9s (a few GP7s too) and RS18s that involved chopping their noses and in the case of the GP9s, upgrading the 567 engine with 645 power assemblies. They kept their 1750 hp rating.
Some more shots from my tour of Kansas City during the last week of June. At Hickory Street in the West Bottoms area. Before leaving Santa Fe Junction, one last train with a surprise came by. Shot this through the window as we were driving off.
Light power on the BNSF. This was taken from Forrester Road at a place the locals call the "Goose Neck". This is just east of West Bottoms. So many places, so many trains, it was hard to keep track. But I had fun.
As part of an epic roadtrip south to Denver, Colorado Springs and points north, we saw a few trains. Here's an EB baretable hustling around the south unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, in SW North Dakota: And Northbound tonnage at Palmer Lake, CO:
Iowa Interstate train BICB(left) tied down on yard track one while NSPEDM is tied down on yard track two at South Amana Yard. NS 7258 is one of the newly rebuilt SD70ACu. 7/6/2016 NS SD70ACu 7258 leads the way on NSPEDM at Ladora, IA. Iowa Interstate Newton Sub. 7/6/16.
The units are being rebuilt with the latest EMD cab. The Siemens electronics are getting replaced by Mitsubishi electronics. The rebuilts also include the installation of Ultra Cab II, locomotive speed limiter(LSL) and cab signals. The trucks will be rebuilt only as-needed and they are not getting traction motors swapped out. source: Wikipedia
That sounds expensive, though I guess it is less expensive than buying a new unit, even with trade-in discounts.
