As of right now, UP 844 is in Sparks Nv. they plan to leave at 8am. Last week, they were scheduled, per the website to hit Colfax at 1:15. I live in Roseville, I'm baby sitting the kid/work from home till 10:30ish and then my plan was to go into work for a few hours and take an extended lunch. Get up to Colfax before 844. Hopefully catch a picture at Cape Horn and then see it in Colfax then probably head back to work and be back by 2. Then, on Monday, My boss sends out a meeting invite for a team lunch meeting. So, not important for getting work done, but team building and I can't really say no. :| Still, 11:30 to 1. I could leave a little early and make it to Colfax at least in time to see her stopped at the station right? Well, as of this morning, she's now scheduled to arrive Colfax at 12:55. This sucks, I can't do that. I don't want a picture of her in Roseville, because Roseville is ugly. I wanted a quintessential Donner picture. Alas, if my wife didn't have the car, I would have taken the Kid and gone to Truckee this morning. So now, I have to figure out a good spot to get a shot that is close enough that I'll beat 844, scenic, but also close enough to Roseville to get back to work at a reasonable time. Maybe Auburn.
844 was quite punctual. I got what I think are decent shots. Not so good Given what was just a few miles up the hill, but not suburban Roseville either.
Just remember some of us won't get as close to her as you. Go get her and bring back some pic's. I don't care if she's sitting in the Roseville Yard, getting serviced. Grin!
