Question I wonder how many people out there use O Gauge in the Ganden's as a smaller scale than G; kind of like using N Scale rather than HO. :lightbulb: :lightbulb: :lightbulb: :lightbulb:
How feasible is O in garden layouts, versus Garden scale? Much more scenery bang for the buck, with smaller size trains going thru life-like scenery.
O in the garden you ask ? http://warweb.homelinux.net/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=gr2006 Still laying track at the west end (sounds grand that way ) but hopefully I'll be able to do that this weekend if my parcel arrives and the good weather holds. Simon
I scratchbuilt all locomotives and rolling stock seen in the pictures. The photos were done from negatives so are not very good. Pity I don't have colour pictures as the "scenery" was real, growing stuff, and looked great in spring and summer
Thanks Simon. I really enjoyed the garden railway, but the mainenance was a chore, especially as we had a big tree in the garden which deposited all sorts of stuff on the tracks - leaves, blossom, and worst of all, sticky stuff which was really hard to remove. So eventually I dismantled the line, and persuaded our club to let me build an O gauge exhibition layout.
Although I cannot do O scale, I spend a good deal of time on the Atlas O forum. There are some pretty nice folks over there. Where else do O scalers hang out online?
Ok you asked for it This is actually Tina's collection for the most part, she has been collecting three rail ever since we were married. So.... This is the town of Westfield IL, population of 2500. It is on the north west side of the state and runs along the old CB&Q and Rock Island. IL Route 73 runs north/south through it and also contects with IL route 71. Here is downtown Westfield at Westfield Station built in 1914 by the CB&Q after the original burned down in late 1913. Now it sees service from Amtrak twice a day and modern BNSF traffic. Hey it looks like we have a Railfan under the light, wonder what's commin' Cool! A CSX GP39-2 still in D&H paint! This one is for you Stourbridge Lion! I also have a pair of Railking D&H PA's:teeth:
It's Saturday night and all the guys are getting ready for the Hot Rod meet at the Dairy Freeze. Seward Garage is the best place to get these cars tuned up. Looks like Tina is putting Gas in Jessica, our Red Wrangler Railfan Jeep. The Garage is named after Tina's Dad and Brothers real shop in Winnebago. Here is an overall shot of Westfield. The main street has a nice median with trees and gas laterns, well electric really:shade: In the distance on Main you can see Cheryls Bed and Breakfast (named after Tina's sisiter) Supervalue Grocery (small IL grocery chain), JTW Rails & Crafts and Northland Baptist Church (named after Tina's brother-in-law who is a Pastor). That big orange grain elevator in the distance sure looks like a large Lionel box:embarassed:
Wow, looks like CSX forgot to paint this caboose! Oh well looks good as is! Now to show you how nice my wife is here is the wall of B&M. She knew I would get home sick every now and then so she designed the living room as the Boston & Maine room. Besides having photo's and paintings regarding the B&M in this room she also has allowed me this O guage collection of B&M. Yes those walls are matched to B&M Blue! She even managed to make the curtains match! So there you have it, this is what a rivit counter N scale guy does to relax, and it is great fun! I hope you enjoyed my ramblings:teeth:
There are a couple of Yahoo Groups. And for those narrowly inclined, a couple of very active On30 ones! Boxcab E50
I would if I knew how to post a pic, where is the icon hidden to do that. I've viewed your photos. Am certain others have as well. As with many groups and lists, a lot of folks just read and lurk. Never know when a topic will take off, and get busy. Was thinking that seated fellow on the coal station platform ought to have a fishing pole in hand. :teeth: Boxcab E50
