Seeing as I have now completed the new sawmill, I re-designed my new trackplan so I could fit it in. I had drawn up this plan using the old sawmill, but this one is a little larger than the other so a re-working of the plan was the order of the day.
Paul, nice drawing, what scale are you in? Would you be interested in doing a drawing like that for a layout I'm starting? It's in HO scale, a small layout, 4'x10' with a 2'x4' yard off to on side, Robert
I am always reluctant to comment as your layout is done so very well, and has developed over years of time. Going from memory (a dangerous thing for an old fart to do), it seems to me this plan is operationally more interesting and more complex, which I like. I think I have asked you this before, but what to heck... so I'm having a senior's moment here... do you operate with others? It looks like it would be fun to run with other operators, but I am supposing the max you could have there is three - something like our "in the study" layout.
The hardest part with scenes that deap is reaching to the back. Do you have any access hatches back there?
Hi All, and thanks for the comments, I will answer some questions asked. Robert, This is H0 scale and the main board is 10' by 5' with a 6' by 6' "L" shape off the left and 3' by 1'6" off the right. You could possibly get away with 10' by 4' if you left off the Camp #2 and the 14" riser section. Rick I sometimes operate with others, but in the main, I am a solo person. Rob Not a problem reaching the back as I have an 18" space at the rear of the layout to get to it all from. Looking forward to starting this on the 3rd January. Will post pics of the start of the benchwork later, meanwhile Happy New Year to one and all. [ 29 December 2001: Message edited by: Paul Templar ]
Paul, From your comments I gather you have totally stripped the layout room? Are you using the same techniques that you used when you built the last layout? How are you planning to control operations this time? I currently use a central control panel but now I have a radio throttle I will in future have local panels to do the switching and operating of the mainline. Good luck with the construction and I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.
