hey guys i was wondering exactly what CHTT is supposed to be... i know what it stands for but i was wondering what exactly is it's purpose on UP?
It's probably something to do with equipment lease and/or accounting. They show that subsidiary (Chicago Heights Terminal Transfer RR) separately for tax and other beneficial reporting purposes. Similar to how you can find the post-Conrail cars which were re-lettered for NYCRR, PRR. Boxcab E50
the real question is if SP were the dominant road as it is in my world what would they have done? still used CHTT or create something else or nothing at all?
As I understand the progression, CHTT came to UP via Mopac. SP certainly had subsidiaries. I wonder if asking in our SP Fallen Flag Forum would bring some ideas? Boxcab E50
Boxcab is right as usual. Chicago Heights Terminal and Transfer was a MOPAC subsidiary which handled heavy switching service in Chicago Heights, a suburb just south of the city. I seem to recall they handled a lot of steel, rock and manufacturing business. Barry
Espee had Golden West as a leasing subsidiary. I would use those reporting marks. VCY Ventura County GVSR ??
