    Found this critter at a plant just outside of Mojave,CA. Anybody got a clue what it is?

    Or, what was it? What are the markings on the side? I can tell something is there.

    At first it looks like a slug. But things such as the exhaust are certainly different. Do I see a window? Some sort of small cab space? A home made switcher?

    Hmmm. Good question!

    Yeah, I can't read the markings. Didn't even know they were there till I got the pic loaded up on my computer. Was this a switcher at some point or a slug with remote controls?? I've no clue. Happened to spot it deep in the plant out of the corner of my eye as we drove past and it instantly screamed 'motive power', but what??? :)
    Not sure what that little window on the walkway is either. Hmmmmm. :)

    Hmmm. You may need to dig out your Sherlock Holmes cap and take it along next time in that vicinity!

    That "window" indicates a rudimentary shelter for the operator's "pit" that was made out of a stepwell.

    As to heritage, the end stanchion arrangement suggests former Alco.

    But that's just a guess.
