I took a picture of this boxcar? in Duluth, MN summer of 2005. They were in storage near the Lake Superior Railroad Musuem. What were they used for? Is this one of the first aluminium boxcars or are they just painted silver? Copyright 2008 Jerry DeBene
Apparently it is a "Bopper". See this website for a description, fourth paragraph down.... http://www.lsrm.org/Education/freights.asp Copyright 2008 Jerry DeBene
What's funny about this is the BN is one "weird" railroad. They do the most experiments than any other road I know. One mag. I have shows another BN wierd 1/4 mile long articulated coal train. One constant on going floor and two constant on going walls with a frame between each truck. Results: FAILED. They were trying to haul more coal with fewer cars. Question is, who comes up with those rediculous idea's and actually wastes millions on them. Welcome to the third rock from the sun man. Copyright 2008 Jerry DeBene
Ahhh, the "Trough Train"! I have an article about that in an old Pac-Rail News. Copyright 2008 Jerry DeBene
Actually, that doesn't seem such a ridiculous idea. If 5-unit double-stack cars can work well, why not a 13-unit coal car? Copyright 2008 Jerry DeBene
There have been many great inventions that were great ideas, but were at the wrong place or the wrong time. Take Leonardo DaVinci, he had the right concepts, just didn't have the materials to make them work.... Copyright 2008 Jerry DeBene
Thankd Hytec. I should have gone to the website! Does anyone know what happened the "Through Train?" Highball Videos has a clip of it on their Crawford Hill video. Kinda neat to see. Copyright 2008 Jerry DeBene
