Also in the area there is concrete supports from what appear to have been bridges.

    Location : Michigan City Indiana

Any info on the era this might of been from would be much appreciated.

*sorry if this is wrong section*

Good question. Almost looks like part of an old boiler. I have seen old boilers adapted to storage tank use for water and... Perhaps?

It could be but im thinking its rail related just cause of this being within 1 mile of 2 ex-pullman standard factorys. Also in the WWII era ive been told that area had rail tracks for munitions transport (pullman made munitions during WWII along with 2 or 3 other local factorys).

Mabye it might be worth the effort to dig up and see what the bottom half looks like.

I understand your thinking. Just saying that it might have been a boiler, of undetermined origin. That dome might be a steam dome. Looks to be on the small side, and not really the right shape for a tank car.

Digging might be helpful. At least allowing more detailed photos for use in researching photos from P-S plant history.

Looks like two separate pieces, one surely looks like a boiler with a steam dome and the other has liquid fittings--maybe a tender with oil for fuel? :tb-confused:

Might you know what the inside of a boiler looks like? It has a bunch of long rods inside of it running back to front. Also its not as small as it looks in the picture its quite large.

Ill take some better pictures and get measurements on it.

Thanks for taking a look :ru-biggrin:

EDIT: I think I found out what this is. I thinks its a traction engine boiler from around 1880~1920 I did some google'n and found this

not an exact match but its close.

Sure looks like it's been there a while. I'd say its an old boiler or pressure vessel of some sort. Castaways from the PS factory perhaps?

Dont think so. PS bought Haskell-Barker in the 1920's (i think) so if this was used in railcar production it was most likely used by haskell/barker pre 1920.

On a side note I never knew my hometown had this much history , haha

I would suspect it's a stationary boiler from the factory.
Years ago many plants had their own power supplies both for heating and for driving power tools.

A traction engine could be what you have located. Now that you have us all curious, looks like some further archaeology is required! :D
