I know what they looked like but not what thier purpose was.
I have googled it to death including checking several glosseries on railroads.
Please someone tell me what they "transfered"?
    Thanks!

I didn't know where to post this.

    Does this help?

A transfer caboose was designed for short-haul trips; they usually featured a short car body and spacious end platforms to give the rear-end crew plenty of room to observe the train during transit. In this case, GBW #101 was being used on the back-up maneuver on the 2-mile
Hope this helps all else fails go to "ask.com" :lightbulb:

I've also heard them referred to as an office on wheels.

Thank you! guys. That is just what I needed to know. I can see a couple of those on the GandG. Operations will be extensive point to point with little regard for engine location in place. These will be ideal and cool looking too..
