I think I'm curious about the turntable. Any closer views?

None currently, but can get some soon. What do you want to know? It is an HO scale TT (Walthers I believe) that I rescued from e-bay. It had no guts at all, just the bridge and well. I decided to leave it narrow, added some scale wood decking and a wood gallows. I used wire for the beam supports but do not like the results (I found some plans to use thicker cable like that used to hang pictures with) and will be changing it. Pics soon...

Just would like to see it from a closer view. Curiousity. Never know what good idea there is, which can be adapted here some day.

Thanks. Looks like I see a few rusty areas. Guess the RR has been using that bridge for a while.

By the time the C & S was formed in 1899 most of the equipment it received, along with facilities, was quite old and suffering from "deferred maintenance." The tuntable and roundhouse at Como, which this module will represent, were actually very well kept but one has to take license somewhere :)

The sides of the roundhouse. Is that plaster? Also, did you make the stonework, and if so, how did you do it?
Looks great by the way. :)

Stephen, the entire roundhouse is made of foam board that you can get at arts and crafts stores. I hand carved each and every stone with a hobby knife. Thanks for the compliment. There are a lot more pics of this thing in the Narrow Gauge model forum under "On30 Roundhouse So Far." Have a look ;)

John, nice work, was very interested in that turntable also. Could you indulge me in a Question? What is On30 and narrow guage terminology.I mnow I'm showing my ignorance but I just don.t know. I'm more curious now that I got this O Scale set. Thanks and Cheers.

Joseph, if I understand the question correctly you want to know what On30 is in terms of meaning? It simply designates "O" scale that is narrow gauge (n) at the 3' 0 " width (30). Hope that hel;ps!

    Joseph-

I'm not John, nor do I play him in real life. :teeth:

On30, is O scale trains, that use HO scale track width. With On30, the ties are larger and longer. "30" means this is to represent 30 inches between the rails. Instead of standard gauge 56 & 1/2". Using the HO scale width, actually scales out to about 31.xx inches. (Can't think of the actual number right now.) But it's close enough.

The great thing about On30 is the fact that it uses readily made track, and might i add very cheap track... HO... and you could use code 100 for the most part, which will make it fairly close to scale, but you could run code 83 to make it look really really used and abused.... the nicest thing about narrow gauge, for the most part... they used what ever was available... take a look through some old photos of logging and mine operations... basically the only that looks non-homemade is locos... and some of the locos are borderline homemade some times. The O scale god decided to smile on the guys who dont have the ability to afford brass, and bachmann produced some of the nicest locos that ever came out of china.
