I ran into this locomotive somewhere around Deming NM; but I could not identify what RR it was. Sorry for the lack of clarity

I too believe that is a Southwestern railroad unit. You stated the picture was at Deming. The SW railroad operates the old ATSF line from Santa Rita mines through Deming on to Rincon, N.M. where it interchanges with the BNSF. I used to route Albuq bound asphalt cars from the SP to intechange to ATSF at Deming. Carl
