There's a big splashy Trains.com/Garden Railways announcement for a new line of Large Scale trains by K-Line. Anyone know what scale it is? GR calls it Large Scale, K-Line's website calls it G scale. But G is a gauge, not a scale, with 1:20.3, 1:22.5, 1:24, 1:29, 1 :32, and other scales all running on the same gauge of track. I was told here a few months ago that the scale of "G" buildings/structures don't matter...but surely locomotives & cars matter ? So, does anyone know what scale the new stuff is ?
I believe that the K-Line speeder does not fit in any of the scales you mentioned. It seems they will release a GP9 with spoked wheels ($99.00) and some army cars. I cannot see what quality you can deliver for such a price. The whole thing seems to me very toylike. Personally I stay within the 1:29 scale as you have the most quality products in relation with their price. Of course you can mix buildings of these scales. But if you run a 1:22.3 locomotive with 1:24 cars you will notice the difference in scale very well. [ 23. February 2003, 09:50: Message edited by: Rappannahock Terminal ]
Thanks anyway, Paul, I was referring to the K-Line brand new press release, for the Army GP and train, and the good-looking Heinz reefer...the reefer lists at $69.95, I don't think that's cheap. As far as the Army train, I was thinking it might be appropriate for outside for the grandchildren, if the motor, drive train & wheels were of reasonably good quality. Anyway, don't worry about it, I have contacted K-Line directly, to see what scale the units are. regards / Mike
Mike, the K-Line web page www.k-linetrains.com shows a G gauge GP35 with spoke wheels. Doesn't look fully scale in length. The cars are old time style cars. If it is half decent as a runner, then I would consider picking up one and painting it in my short line to run outside. K-Line does have some nice stuff and then they have some marginal stuff. Only time will tell. Greg Elems
Thanks Greg, I was into the K-Line website last week, before I asked the "what scale" question...BTW, they have not yet responded to my e-mail asking what scale their product is. regards / Mike
