I have a fleet of Atlas 90 ton hoppers (n scale) that I'm planning to convert to metal wheels. What size wheels would the prototype have? I'm guessing 36", but I want to be sure before I go ahead with the project.

    Here's the prototype:

Chris, Your photo is an excellent side-on view. If you can determine a dimension on the body (height, length, etc.) then use that as a reference to measure the wheel diameter, you should get within an inch or two.

Those look like 33" in the photo though it's hard to tell. A 90ton car would not need 36 wheels.

From what I understand, even though Atlas calls its hoppers "90 ton", they're actually 100 ton. Here's a quote I found in the archives:

Car should have 36" wheels. The new releases from Atlas all come with 36" plastic wheels.
