I am now in possession of an Athearn GP38-2, undec blue box kit. (and I have another Atheran and an Atlas Trainman GP38-2 as well.) What should it turn into? I'm thinking of replacing the fans with Cannon parts, and giving it a few other details...but what road should it be? Turtle Creek Central, Rio Grande (I know they didn't have any), Uncle Pete, TBX or who???????

Were it me, they'd be in Frisco colors, but that's just my opinion...... However, Trainboard colors sound good- here's an example:
The Athearn BB GP38-2 fans are actually pretty nice for non-seethrough fans. So I wouldn't rush to replace those. Although, if you take the fans off and they're still serviceable, I'll take them.
if you do TBX, you'll have to proint your own I suspect. Thtough that's not a bad thing. At soem point, I'd like to get hold of or make a TCC set too. Here's what I did with an Athearn GP60 blue box. [video=youtube;YG1UBv8nXb8]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YG1UBv8nXb8&feature=player_detailpage[/video] If you do paint it, I used a rattle can of Competition Orange, A Krylon mettalizer, and a Frylogn plastics can of primer. Primer the model, then spray with the metallizer (liked to run on me even from great distances) then tape mask the stripe and paint it orange, maybe do soem touch ups with a brush or a paint marker. Teh truck frames do pull apart.
What is the 'mettalizer'? I'm completely new to painting... I have a few undecorated locos I might try this on if it's simple enough What type of masking paint did you use? Where did you get your decals from? thanks

I’d say, love it, run it! OOO you want to know what road to paint on it? Well if it where me it would be Norfolk Southern, Conrail or Norfolk and Western, But that’s just me.
OK, A friend of mine's railroad is the South Western and Pacific (SWP), He will be painting decaling the undec GP38-2. I have an Atlas Trainman which will become the TBX, and there's an Athearn UP unit that is going to become a Turtle Creek Central....but not a complete repaint. This little project will keep me busy for a while...I'll try and post photos as it progresses.....
