...that ran in Model Railroader years ago, then again in book form. I remember seeing a for sale ad in MR some time ago as well saying the layout was for sale. Any idea where it landed?
Interesting question! Now you have me wondering about other layouts that MR built. Such as the Wisconsin Central (N), the Burlington Northern (N), and even the Clinchfield (N). The latter I believe went out in a contest. Does it still exist? What does happen to these projects? The layout Malcolm Furlow built in narrow gauge years ago still is around. There have been small blurbs in numerous MR's about this guy who collects those layouts. Occasionally the guy sets them up for displays as well. Can't remember his name though.
They said in an article back in 89 I think it was, that the Clinchfield was won by a guy in Florida as first prize in a contest they had, but he died, then his wife, who wasn't into model railroading, let it gather dust and generally just become all dusty and dirty and everything. Then, they got it back and hired Dave Faray to get it up and running again, and clean it up and everything. (the article was about how he did it). But, there was a post in the Atlas forum a couple years ago where someone said that it's fallen into disarray again.
