www.makemymodel.com website seems to be down. does anyone know why? are any of the others of you having trouble? i'm getting ready to paint up some vehicles and wanted to review their tips for cleaning the items before paint. i guess i'll just use a hobby knife to get the wax out of the cracks and hope for the best. dave f.
Dave, They're having a temporary issue with their servers. I've spoken (via email) to them today and they say they should be back up soon. As soon as they are back up, I have an online article with Paul Gear of MakeMyModelback ready to go over at Ztrains. On cleaning, I found a cached page on Google that details the cleaning process of their models prior to paint: http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cach...akemymodel,+cleaning&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us John http://www.ztrains.com
MMM has simply stated to clean them with 70% IPA (Isopropal Alcohol) that you can get at any grocery, pharmacy or other store. I had asked them about using 90 or 100% (which I have in big bottles) and they said that had not tried but likely would work. Do not use Acetone and I have not tried Denatured or other Alcohols (more flamable). I have quite a few containers and trucks I need to paint. Let me know how it goes. Last show until September so I can finally get back to detail work.
A new product I came across works really nicely with MakeMyModel pieces, Krylon H20 latex aerosol: http://www.krylon.com/main/product_...elid=9&productid=1860&content=product_details Takes a bit longer to dry than conventional aerosols, but being latex it is even safe on foam. It's a handy way to coat a lot of pieces without breaking out the airbrush. John http://www.ztrains.com
