I dont think ill get a chance to go railfanning cause i have my nephews 13th b-day partie to go to but whats you railfanning plans???
Cordele, for real! CSX, NS, HOG, and the SAM Excursion train to Plains. If tomorrow is anything like today, the skies will be excellent (no haze, low humidity)!
I will likely get a couple of hours on the BNSF Wichita Falls sub, plus a good chance of a jaunt or two down to Tower 55 and UP's Centennial Yard. There's also a train show this weekend in Fort Worth, (hence the T55/Centennial trip) so other than a couple of football games it looks like a good solid railroading weekend ahead. Of course, the weather is supposed to turn sour on Saturday night and Sunday (and most of next week) so I better get the railfanning in while I can.
Oh, just the usual, go around town and the yard. I also plan to hike part of the old sugarbeet line just east of the sugar factory in Scottsbluff ! Its kinda neat that all of the track wasn't tore up and is still in tact. Might post some of my findings...
Hope to spend some time on my town. I am working off the bench. I have the upper level progressing. Streets are in. sidewalk in place. I have the country church finished and ready to set in, next the cemetery next to it. I have some of my mother's ashes that are going in there. Doc in CC
Marias, busiest?? Not really, but 30-40 trains per day, if I recall. Pretty busy for a mountain pass--single-tracked over most of it. Are manned helper still being run? Based outta Essex?
Since there is no steam running nearby (I am such a narrow minded railfan) and I just received a copy of the book "The Deschutes River Railroad War," I will just curl up on the couch and start reading this book. Book looks real interesting and can be obtained from the PNWC-NRHS (Pacific NorthWest Chapter, NRHS) for $30.
Since the weekend is half over and it's suppose to be chilly, but sunny, I may go to the Lehigh Line for a while...
Had planned to go to Cordele with Frisco Bob but a youngster who wasn't paying enough attention to his driving put a stop to that for me. (Sorry I missed out Bob)
Sunday:- Keeping an eye on the train service from my office, watching the digits move across the PC screen.... Oh and getting the train to and from work.
Well, altho BNSF Fan was knocked out of railfanning by a dumb kid with bad driving skills (I'm sorry too, but stuff happens, and I'm glad no one got hurt), I managed to carry on & get to Cordele, then went west to Americus to catch what the HOG had in its yard, then mosey over to, oh, uh, some little burg that had some guy what used to be President living there (did get a pic of the SCL depot, which is still standing). ALso ran into a couple of railfans- one from Australia, even! Today, it's Brosnan Yard & NFL day!
Oh yeah, pics of this trip can be found in http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/showgallery.php?cat=1119 and http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/showgallery.php?cat=1047
Well i seen a few trains going down the Louisville & Indiana line a couple of csx detours went thru there
Next Monday is holiday in Thailand (King Chulalongkorn Day). I've bought a return ticket for a steam excursion from Bangkok to Ayuttaya. I'm looking forward to a good trip.:shade:
