common to all is good fresh lube, correct type in correct areas in correct amounts .. all brands have their own specific problem areas
Someone on another forum once drew up an excellent annotated photo, but I can't seem to find it at the moment. Mike Fifer's videos are always helpful (though, N-scale specific), so at least I can provide a link to his video here. As far as I can recall, here are the main bullet points: • DO NOT lubricate truck gears. These gears are made of Delrin plastic and never need lubrication. • DO lubricate gear shafts at bearing blocks (small, cube-shaped black pieces of plastic). • DO lube the motor spindle at each end. • DO buy a tube of Labelle 108 lightweight hobby lubricant, which is plastics-safe.
