Asked this in N scale forum. Looking to find foam rubber like the kind that you see in Con-Cor collector boxes. Any help where I can get it?

Packing Foam, Foam Packaging, Packaging, Packaging Material probably has what you want.

Unless you are absolutely insistent upon the polyurethane foam, why not go to a walmart or 99ยข store and buy some closed-cell sponges? They usually have some good-sized ones for washing cars. One of those ship-it places (Fedex Kinkos or whatever) probably sells sheets of thin stuff. Those egg-crate mattress pads are pretty cheap too.

Or you could follow the advice already given in the thread in the other room.

    Rob,
How dense do you want it? You can get foam about the consistancy of the inserts that come in Kato/Atlas boxes at a craft/fabric store. Sometimes called funky foam. It only comes up to a 1/2" think though. You can get the same stuff up to an 1" thick from Parma/PSE for use on RC car bumper reinforcement.

As far as the less dense stuff like the Concor display boxes, possibly again a fabric store, raw pillow or mattress foam.

I know I have seen it available pre-cut as replacement inserts for gun cases and such also.

Might try an upholstry shop and buy the scraps of foam used by them. Just a thought.

If this is for holding your models and you use something not specifically intended for that, keep some tissue paper or the like between the model and the foam. Some foams (or the stuff they offgas) can react unpleasantly with some model finishes.

    Foam education

Learning more about foam rubber than I would have ever thought. Basically I want to make a display case with foam like Con Cor uses.
