Anyone know where I can get one of these Mountain Model Imports K-28 in On30 and of course at the best possible price? I'd love to own this loco. but I like to get a good deal. so if anyone has any tips or ideas. Thanks. and with a doghouse on the tender would be 1000% wonderful.
These really are sweet. The only place I have seen them advertized is in the Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette in an MMI ad. Not sure that you can get them elsewhere? I check On30 on Ebay everyday and have never seen one advetized there. J
That sounds like I'm going ot have to "pay" for one. I sure have become a D&RGW / Colorado RR junkie lately. even thinking of moving there somewhere. and I'm becoming an On30 junkie as well. My few HO items are going to be sold soon, and my N scale is on the back burner. When you look at the prices for the big discounted Bachmann and other On30 products online and how nice most of them are for the price, it seems silly to pay the same or more for tiny N scale stuff. Looking to end up with for locos: - that MMI K-28, - 2-4-4 forney with sound - Bachmann 2 truck Shay - Precision Craft Goose. I was thinking about the Bachmann 2-8-0 since they go for about only $70, but after seeing that MMI K-28, the Bachmann 2-8-0 pales. I might need to get one just cause it is cheap and I hear it runs real nice. same for the Climax. then I'll have a more complete collection.
I'd try Caboose Hobbies; they usually give you a good price. Factory Direct Trains has the best prices, but not a very good selection.
Although I agree that the On30 stuff is great for the price I guess the scale depends on what you want out of the railroad. I like the idea of N scale for lots of scenery and my old Santa Fe Southwestern was an N scale empire! For me though, the decision was based on affordable narrow gauge models. Like you I am a big Colorado narrow gauge guy and On30 allows me to model it at prices that won't break the bank. Another 2-8-0 you shuld look at is Broadway Limited Imports C-16 which comes in a variety of Colorado road names. I have one of these and love it! It is set up to run either as DCC or DC and has sound. It is an excellent running model and I got mine for about $150.00 including shipping. J
I see factory direct trains just listed teh blueline c-16. I just bought a couple of on30 geese from them. $79.50 each with sound & DCC. Just a short review of the Precision Craft on30 Goose. it sounds nice, runs very well. but I was surprised that there is no rope from the cab to the bell on the goose. even looks like a hole in the cab for one. both are missing it? my N scale Con-Cor goose has the rope. and my N sclae Goose has ALL front lights lit, shere as the PC On30 Goose only has the roof top light. odd, 300x larger and they can't light it no include rope. good thing I only paid $79.50. also, the lighting in the passenger version, the lighting is mostly in the back, not very even, and much brighter than the front bus part. coudl be better. but I can fix all thee issues. just sux to have to.
This stuff sure has a pull to it. Hard to resist. Lately, I've been feeling a very similar temptation. Boxcab E50
GREAT NEWS!! Your MMI K-28 has shown up on E-Bay atwhat I think may be a great price. I will PM you the details!
Man-o-man...went back to have another look at the MMI for you and found this: I just couldn't resist! Either my wife or my banker is going to kill me if I don't stop buying this stuff!
That K-28 went for $390. I just missed it the last couple seconds, It got picked off from me. was it any of you??? no hard feelings. I 'd just liek to see better photos of it. I kinda want one with the green boiler, and it looked like it might have, but the description said grey & black. otherwise I'd have gone higher. I'd also woudl have liked better photos of it. and that cab roof looked a little off.
