Ok, all you hard core Rio Grande fans. Where did I take this picture? It was my very first railfan photo ever, taken on a family vacation in Colorado in August of '77. I know we drove out through Glenwood Canyon, but also followed the Tenessee Pass line I believe. I remember talking my Dad into pulling over to the side of the road so I could take the picture. I'd like to know where it is for old time's sake!

Fyi, the consist is headed up by DRGW5340 (the last SD45 on the roster), another SD45, a GP30, and what looks to be a GP35 & GP40 maybe? [IMG]

You didn't go any further west than Glenwood Springs, did you- say, thru Debeque Canyon to Grand Junction? I could swear that looks like it was shot in Debeque Canyon, as the Colorado is quite full of water at this point. The tracks are on the north side, while I-70 is on the south from Debeque west to Palisade.

Somehow doesn't look like it was shot in Glenwood Canyon.

Yes, we did. We drove from San Diego to Denver, so we would have driven through Grand Junction. I can't remember which side of the river we were on. . . .

Going thru Glenwood Canyon, the highway is on the north side of the canyon; thru Debeque Canyon, it's on the south side. At the west end of the canyon, US6 goes into Palisade, while I-70 crosses the river and railroad tracks to skirt around the south flank of Mt. Garfield and the Book Cliffs, rolling just north of GJ.

I have to say Glenwood canyon as well, since the river is so wide, and tame in the shot... Did you pull off I-70 to get that shot?

Looks to be UPS trailers on that train, sure seems like a high-priority train, too.

That picture was shot about 7 miles east of Glenwood Springs in Glenwood Canyon. Looks to be just east of Shoshone Dam. That is about the only calm spot in the canyon.

Thanks guys - yes, I remember we pulled off of I-70, but I don't think it was a full interstate type highway back then - would that be correct?
