Can anyone recommend a website or source for buying small motors and parts for scratchbuilding animated scenes such as moving highways or rotating signs?

Usually a lot of electronics have tiny motors in them. My friend has bags full of them and I usually call him up when I need something. Parkzone (RC plane company) has some small brushed motors. They go for about $5.99 last time I checked. You may want to search around a bit, though.

I have heard this once. The old, tape style, camcorders had tiny motors to focus the lens and zoom it. They were geared to a very slow speed. I think I know where I can get one or two of them.

Jameco Electronics www.jameco.com sells robotic parts and componets. Give them a look.
