The photo at the following URL was posted by Lance Buckhammer on another forum. The photo, now in his collection, is credited to E. C. Towler. He's curious to know where the photo was taken. Anyone? http://atsf.railfan.net/sf1338.jpg
That is where I got it. Thought I would give it more coverage to help find an answer. Now to report back. :teeth:
For anyone keeping up with this drama, a gentleman named Stan Kistler posted on the Santa Fe email list that he thought the photo was taken in Riverbank on the Valley Division in central California where there was a crew change point and a brick round house. One of the locomotives in the photo, #1388, was assigned to that division and served out its last days there before going to the boneyard and later scrapped. Estimate for the date of the photo, early 1945. The background did not look like other locations along that line like Bakersfield, Richmond or Calwa. I always love a good mystery.
