I was looking at Tim's web site and his Alps Printer notice got me wondering who, if any, of you Z scalers are using a white decal paper and, if so, which brand. If there's an acid test of a media's resolution, I'd have to believe its making Z scale decals.
BEL I am currently using a blue backing, clear decal paper from Bel. They sell many different types. I have the one which has a protective cover over each page. Just peel off before putting into the printer. I think this type is listed along with the ceramic decal paper. Can't remember for sure. Last time I purchased paper was near two years ago at 100 sheets. About 15 left now. Need more soon! Hope this helps! Hobo Tim
Hello Tim Where can i purchase this decal paper? Any onlinestore? Europe? USA? I found one site in the USA but the shipping cost are more expensive than the paper :-( Thanks Álvaro
Bel Inc. This is the link to the website for Bel Inc. products; http://www.belldecals.com/laser_paper.html This is the link to the page where the paper I use in my ALPS MD1000 is located; http://www.belldecals.com/laser_paper.html They show another type of decal paper, which I think is the same under Specialty paper - Models http://www.belldecals.com/model_decals.html Just look at the item #'s to see what is what before ordering... Alvaro, is this the website you went to???? Hobo Tim
I use both Bel decals paper and Tango Papa Decal Paper on my Alps. The Bel is great for large decals because it is thick film, and the Tango Papa can be ordered in thin, regular, and thick film paper types.
What about white decal paper? For some decals like white rporting marks on the black square (or vice versa), white decal paper might be a solution. Randy
That's why I started this thread. I have a project in mind and I'm going to have to make my own decals. I'm going to need white in them. I don't have an Alps printer or know anyone near me that does, so that isn't an option.
I use the Bel paper. Generally I use white and just trim to size to renumber or make signs, etc. This picture has a "Sand Load Only" sign printed by my ink jet printer on white Bel decal paper. The sign is about 3 mm (one-eigth inch) square. I also make engine number boards this way by using black ink and leaving the numbers to be made by the white paper. Here is another, larger example of renumbering a car. Here is an example of N scale decal numberboards with black ink on white Bel paper.
Flash, I like the weather hopper. How did you do the clean up reporting number? I want to the same to a Chessie. Thanks
To make the clean up reporting marks, I just put a piece of masking tape over them while I weather the car.
