Which model paint suits DRGW orange best ?

I am planning to superdetail my Nscale Rio Grande SD40T-2s from Intermountain. As I am living in Europe, and have no access to US accurate railroad paints, I need to order some paints from the US.

Thus I will need to change the snow plow and paint an more accurate one. What is the model paint that suits the best the orange used on the snow plow of the DRGW SD40T-2 ?

I found in the Polly Scale range from Testor's :
F414254 Floquil - D & RGW Orange 1 Oz.
would that accurately fit my SD40T-2 from IM ?

And would you advise for my Speed Lettered Southern Pacific those Polly scale acrylic paints :
F414183 Floquil - SP Scarlet 1 Oz
F414182 Floquil - SP Lark Dark Gray 1 Oz.

If not, what would you suggest ?

the Badger D&RGW yellow is an almost perfect match for IM tunnel motors paint. i find that product, however, EXTREMELY difficult to work with. everytime i've ever used Badger paints they spray into blobs and bubbles. for touch-ups with a brush, however, it can repair a scratch or blemish on the IM paint quite well.

next best is pollyscale acrylic D&RGW yellow. but which ever color you choose, you can dirty it up to the point of hiding the color, since that's what happened to most Rio Grande plows after only a few months exposure.

i'm a floquil fan. if someone could provide a recipe (formula) for mixing a good D&RGW yellow, i'd like to have it too!! problem is, it may take one formula to match IMs paint, and another formula to match micro-scale decal colors.

re: SP colors, i believe the floquil colors are right on, so the polly scale acrylic colors should be too (same company) -- but i've never used the SP acrylic colors so i can't testify to it.

especially with the DRGW/SP units mostly covered in coal dust/exhaust etc etc.Well most of the time.
I'm a supporter of Badger paints for matching qualities too.

You suggest Badger DRGW yellow for my TMs but mentions difficulties in using it. I don't have a spray. I will use my brushes to paint the snow plow. I am not really used to painting. Do you advise me to thin a bit the Badger paint for better brushing ?

what is the appropiate thinner for Badger paint ? is water OK ?

Another question of a beginner, are lattest DRGW diesel using "yellow" or "orange" for the large flying logo in complement to the black ?
what is aspen yellow and on which diesels was it applied?

yes, jean, 16-62 D&RGW GOLD is your color. sorry i didn't give you a number to begin with, but i was answering from my work at the time.

paint on a thin coat and let it dry. then paint another -- and dry. do this until you get the coverage you want. otherwise the paint will build up on the edges, and extra wet coats will only make it worse. so a few thin coats will do you better. it's the right match for the IM tunnel motor, and is the one the IM employees advise.

Modelflex D&RGW Gold 16-62 is Aspen Gold. This color matches the gold used on the IM SD40T-2.
To get the best results you will need to prime the parts with a white (or light colored) primer first. I like to use Flouquil Antique White applied with an airbrush. Tamiya does make several spray can primers that may work for you.

Modelflex D&RGW Orange 16-61 is used for some of the later freight cars.
Also note that KC Orange and Anschutz Orange are not the same with KC Orange being darker.

I had basically ordered this Engine Black paint for weathering projects, but it has yet to be shipped from the shop. I was wondering if it would also match the black of my IM TMs when painting grab irons.

Great I don't need to buy a second black paint.
