Did CN buy BCR outright? Or was it actually a long term lease?

Long-term lease... but that's just semantics... same way the NS leased the Wabash

    N&W.

Yes. I know. But there have been a few examples over the years, where a company does re-emerge. Such as the Housatonic RR. Or the Providence & Worcester. Those were both 999 year leases, which went into the NYNH&H.

So it is possible, that some day, BCR might come back. Some day...... Perhaps......

    Nope... I meant NS ;).

The Housatonic was a new company chartered using an old name, not an assumption of an existing lease.

The P&W was a 99 year lease... and is a case of the existing company breaking a lease (due to the PC takeover of NH)

Not sure where NS fits in. Unless there was a newer lease drawn up. I was referencing the original N&W takeover in 1964.

Yes, It's not the original "Housatonic" company. My point was that some of the original Housatonic track had re-emerged, and was once again an operating entity. And, yes. I know they've much more than that today.

Excuse my typo.... An extra 9 got in there. My point was simply that P&W had re-emerged.

Having been involved with some things I cannot discuss, am aware of some background of BCR situation, which the general public does not know.

Please do, It's been a hot bed of discussion up here in BC. We are going into an election and the BCrail issue keeps coming up. All of the opposition parties want an unbiased enquiry before the election...

    Fun Fun stuff.

BTW I am just new to the board and just want to say that I am impressed with the interest in BC rail. I used to live about 100ft from the track where it went by (shook my little house as it went by). Always liked the colours they had.

Correct me if I'm wrong; I think BC Rail still owns & operates the track to/from Deltaport/Roberts Bank that connects with CP/CN/BNSF.

Regardless, BCR is a shadow of it's former self.

No, It was bought by CP about 20 years ago. They did a major upgrade of the line back then and installed all new hardwood ties and new one piece rails. It was a major ordeal around here.

Um...no. BC Rail owns the Port Sub from Pratt(junction with the CP Page Sub and the BC HYDRO/Southern Railway of BC Fraser Valley Sub) to Roberts Bank, about 21 miles of track. CP Rail bought the BC HYDRO rail line from Livingstone to Pratt(junction with the BC Rail Port Sub, and the BC HYDRO/Southern Railway of BC Fraser Valley Sub). The Port Sub is all that is left of BC Rail. When the RTC at Roberts Bank answers the radio, it's "BC Rail Port Sub RTC, over".

Somewhat off-topic, but at least along the same ROW's:

I discovered last Friday that the old GN section house at Colebrook had been demolished sometime during the last week; the excavator was still on the property. Another source told me the house was leased to a retired BNSF employee for $1 a year.

Sorry, in the future I'll try not to sound like I know what I'm talking about. I guess I was partially right though. The rail that runs through Milner is owned by CP rail, no?

It's been a while since I had a train on the Port Sub but I believe you're correct.

I have done a little reading about the 9990 lease to CN, but I can't quite figure out all the politics. I understand that there is some sort of scandal.
