Why didn't TT persevere? Well actually it did - just not in the US. As was mentioned earlier, it was the best "big" scale for smaller European homes.

My personal reason for modeling in it are that I like long trains. I have a decent amount of space (10' 3" X 19') but I still can't fit long HO trains unless it's just one continuous station all around and stations tend to be where all the action happens.

N is too small for one very important reason - real trains are heavy. The bigger the scale, the heavier they look when traveling down the rails (because naturally they are heavier), the less side to side swaying there is due to tiny imperfections in the track and so on.

Until recently all my stock was German because that was the only thing available. However, there are changes happening and North American rolling stock availability is picking up. Granted, it's not in every hobby shop but there is a small selection if you want it, usually available via the internet. I ended up buying a bunch of SW1200s from Sazmodel and they are absolutely wonderful! According to the grape vine, the manufacturer has already done the design for a geep (38/40? -2?).

I still like my German stock very much but with the way things are going I'll have to design my new layout to accommodate scenery changes so my American fleet looks at home.
