Hey all, wondered if anyone was familiar with this railroad. they seem to mainly ship Lumber (big surprise) They have a lot of ex-Santa Fe Gp-39 and GP-38. Yesterday I caught a train with mainly finished lumber loads that had an old Passenger coach car spliced in the middle. I assume it was MOW, but why mid train? any thoughts?
I'm somewhat famialiar with the W&P. They're part of the Genesee & Wyoming group of shortlines and operate a collection of ex-SP lines out of Albany OR. Power is, as yu say, mainly ex-ATSF Geeps, but thay also have a pair of ex-NS slugs equipped with dynamic braking and at least one SD9, though it may not be servicable. THe G&W group also owns the Portland and Western (P&W) just up the road in Portland OR and operating on former SP&S lines.
Check out this link: Portland and Western I read somewhere recently where they are all operating under the same name now, but don't remember which one it is.
They have the same Paint Scheme and I've seen the engines intermixed. The other day I saw a High hood Geep/SD in Beaverton which is a Western Sub of Portland. And When I was down in Albany a month ago, I saw an SD-9 like you said, I'm not sure what its condition is. They operate really regularly in Beaverton/Hillsboro.
That website was extremely useful. Thanks. they actually have a couple SDs, but by far the most numerous is GP39-2.
Next time you're in Albany be sure to look for the rarest of them all. Doyle McCormic's pair of PA1 shells are there being worked on on the east side of the yard just south of the overpass. Well, they were the last time I was there, so no promises, but worth a look!
Pretty sure Doyles PA-1 is at Brooklyn yard roundhouse now. (Have pics if anyone is interested!, or if this is something else.) Let me know.
Yeah, Watash, it's sort of a kit. He has 2 PA shells, at least 4 trucks, an ex-BCR C420B to supply the prime mover, and a pile of other parts. Wouldn't surprise me if they had moved to Brooklyn.
and Tomorrow, on the W&P/P&W, the Art Train will be pulled from Brooklyn yard to Hillsboro by none other than guest engine 4449, still adorned in American Freedom Train paint. The Art Train and the 4449 will remain on display in Hillsboro till July 4th. I'm headed that way in about 14 hours.
