Does anyone know if this bridge's opening would be tall enough to be used as a makeshift train bridge or tunnel. If not what would be the best way to raise it?

To clear double stacks, the best way to raise it would be to use hydraulic jacks!

    Hee Hee! :D

(I think all old covered bridges were made for the old clearences.)

In modeling we can raise this type of bridge by simply adding a suitable shim under each side, finishing the outside to look as if it were built taller originally, then paint it.

You may have to widen it out to clear long cars, articulated engines etc. if the bridge is at the start of a curve too.

It can be a pain to remove a derailed car inside these bridges, so think about making the bridge so it will lift off the track. Headless nails (2) one at each end fitted into loose holes will align the bridge OK.
