Another op session tried today, using all 6 AMS tank cars. Had to dump one car, as it derailed constantly! Others didn't fair too much better! Truck bolsters NOT level, so it forces truck to sit with inside wheel slightly higher! A Dime height dip in track caused derailments! Sticking AMS couplers didn't help either. Especially at switches! So, gotta do some massive track rework in places, when it warms up, and is NOT so #@$% muddy! Maybe some minor work on cars will help too. A change to KD couplers certainly won't hurt! No photos today. Was not worth the trouble, with the trouble I was having.
Quality is there. Cars are beautiful. A couple of things that are causing the trouble: 1. Truck bolsters that do NOT sit 90*. So, inner wheel rides slightly high. And springs that are way too stiff. Won't let trucks rock front/back, following any minor imperfections in track. 2. Couplers that get stuck. Cars swing into a curve, and coupler sticks to one side. A change to KD couplers helps that situation though. I'll see what I can do about bolsters though. Maybe remove all springs, and run dead weight on trucks instead. Or, remove a couple spring coils, unless I can get softer springs the same size. Will see. Otherwise, if I get cars running OK, they do quite well. Looking to order another 12 cars, maybe tomorrow. Just waiting on tax return to arrive!! There will be other runs as time goes.
It's like Christmas monring today! The 10 G Scale narrow gauge cars I was waiting for arrived today! As did the Kato N Scale 16 car Cargo set, which also arrived today. Two days ahead of the expected minimum delivery date! Not bad for a train set coming from Japan!
