I am considering building my layout in a winter theme and was wondering if anyone has experience with this. Would this be more difficult than modeling other seasons? I know that snow ground cover is commercially available today. How hard is it to work with? In the past I have used baking soda to represent snow on 1/35th scale armor dioramas and used diluted white glue in a spray bottle to attach it, but over time it began to yellow. Any thoughts.
    Thanx:tb-biggrin:

January 2007 issue of N Scale Railroading has a great article by Mike Danneman's on modeling winter scenes. Mike uses Woodland Scenics snow, powdered hydrocal, marble powder, and gesso.

Have a small snow scene on my HOn3 layout. I used Vintage Reproductions snow crystals, all three types. Dry fluffy snow, wet snow and slush. All you need is a basic covering of plaster with a thin top layer of "snow".
The Vintage Reproductions snow is actually chopped styrene. The chopping process result in each small piece having small flats that reflect light. It has that wonderful reflective quality of real snow.
Just apply it like any ground cover with fine overspray of water/detergent mix and glue down with thinned PVA glue.

To made a snow layout is a very simple: ample pour potato starch over the glue-smeared surfaces.
